When I first started reading this book I'd never heard of Nora Roberts。 And while I was reading it I was thinking to myself that it had all of the hallmarks of a trashy romance novel， except that the writing was a lot better and the characters were better fleshed out。 When I finished I looked up Nora Roberts and went "aha！"。I did enjoy the book quite a bit。 I think the only thing that bothered me was the protagonist's station in life， one of high privilege not afforded to most of us， which worke When I first started reading this book I'd never heard of Nora Roberts。 And while I was reading it I was thinking to myself that it had all of the hallmarks of a trashy romance novel， except that the writing was a lot better and the characters were better fleshed out。 When I finished I looked up Nora Roberts and went "aha！"。I did enjoy the book quite a bit。 I think the only thing that bothered me was the protagonist's station in life， one of high privilege not afforded to most of us， which worked against my sympathy for her。 But she was very well characterized， and her inner monologue allowed me to walk in her shoes for a while。One of the things I appreciated about this book is that the author made the effort to draw in the motivations behind the characters， even the villains。 It's nice to see what's driving these characters rather then just randomly throwing them in the path of the protagonist。 If you like romance and you don't need something too deep， I'd recommend this。 。。。more

Hmm。。。I really wanted to like this more than I did。 I feel like this novel had such great potential。 I liked the synopsis of the plot and thought the characters had potential after reading the blub and then starting the story。 At first， I was getting "Public Secrets" feels。 That novel， also by Nora Roberts， is one of my all time favorite books and a 5 star read for me。 But， I quickly discovered it was a poor man's "Public Secrets"。 The story seemed so choppy and I did not like the romance betwee Hmm。。。I really wanted to like this more than I did。 I feel like this novel had such great potential。 I liked the synopsis of the plot and thought the characters had potential after reading the blub and then starting the story。 At first， I was getting "Public Secrets" feels。 That novel， also by Nora Roberts， is one of my all time favorite books and a 5 star read for me。 But， I quickly discovered it was a poor man's "Public Secrets"。 The story seemed so choppy and I did not like the romance between Cate and Dillon。 I didn't feel that there was much of a connection between them and I didn't believe there was really something strong between them。 Argh。 Frustrating because Nora Roberts has been one of my favorite authors and some of her novels are some of my favorite books。 But lately， I haven't felt that spark or connection to her books。 Painful to say。 I still gave the book 2 stars because it had potential and I do like Nora's writing， but overall it missed the mark for me。 。。。more

A slow startThis book covers several decades of the heroines life。 Roberts is a master at this style of suspense and has used it in several novels。 I would say this book falls under the heading of Romantic Suspense instead of mystery。 The identity of the villains is revealed fairly early in the story: it’s just a matter of figuring out the how rather than The Who。

I enjoyed this。 It was a fairly quick moving story line， with action， but not a lot of gore， thank goodness。 The characters were very likeable and interesting。 It was nice to see the romance develop over the years， and to have a happy ending。
